Former Barcelona striker Luiz Alberto Suarez was in tears when he won the Spanish La Liga title with Athletico Madrid in his first season at the club after they came from behind to beat the hard fought Real Valladolid 2-1.
The Uruguayan international left Barcelona last summer after six years at the club. He scored 21 goals for Atletico this season, including the winners in the last two matches which were instrumental in them winning the league.
Emotional Suarez claim Barcelona did not value him: “Barcelona didn't value me... they underestimated me and Atletico opened their doors to give me an opportunity. I will always be grateful to this club for trusting in me”.
His 21 goals in 32 games fire Atletico Madrid to La Liga glory. The 34-year-old has now won the league in 5 of his 7 seasons in Spain.
Since moving to Spain in 2014:
321 games (38 for Atletico)
219 goals (21 for Atletico)
5x La Liga (1 for Athletico)
Champions League
World Club Cup
14 total trophies.
Congratulations to El Pistolero!
