Many are thinking of these next few weeks as Gareth Bale's last in a Real Madrid shirt but the Welshman showed his status in the squad by captaining his team for the first time on Saturday.
Karim Benzema began with the armband against Leganes and his withdrawal on the hour mark allowed Bale to lead the team at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
When the striker came off, it wasn't immediately obvious who was to take over as captain. Substitute Marco Asensio was handed the armband without instruction and offered it to Casemiro, who turned it down and pointed towards Bale.
