Real Madrid close in on 6000th LaLiga goal

Spanish giants Real Madrid are on the brink of reaching a historical record, as Los Blancos are only three goals away from reaching 6,000 goals in LaLiga.

Since the start of this domestic competition in 1928, Real Madrid have a stunning total of 5,997 goals and Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. are hoping to score the three remaining goals and add their name to the history books during their upcoming battle against Real Betis on Sunday.

The first ever footballer who scored in LaLiga was Jaime Lazcano, author of Madrid's first goal on the opening day of the 1928/1929 league against CE Europa.

Then it was Paco Gento, the man of six European Cups, who marked Los Blancos' 2,000th goal in a 3-1 win at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu against Pontevedra.

On January 20, 1982, another Madrid legend Juan Gomez scored the 3,000th goal for the Spanish side in a match against Salamanca.

Fast forward 12 years and Real Madrid reached the 4,000 mark after Chilean sensation Ivan Zamorano netted the second goal in their 5-0 win against Real Valladolid.

The 5,000 mark was achieved by Guti on September 14 2008, in a hard-fought victory against Numancia that ended 4-3 at the Bernabeu.
