With the league already in the bag, many might have expected Al Ahly to take their feet of the gas but the team has other ideas as they look to maintain form going into the CAF Champions League Group Stages.
Super Eagles invitee, Junior Ajayi did his chances of being on the plane to Russia no harm with his opening goal and general play for Al Ahly against Tanta SC.
Speaking after the match to www.scorenigeria.com.ng, the Nigeria U-23 highest goal scorer during the 2016 Olympics qualifying rounds, “I feel great returning back from national duty to a goal for my club. It is my duty to score goals and I am glad to have been able to contribute again with a goal on Monday.”
The goal poacher quickly expressed how he felt about his first invitation to the Nigeria Senior National Team saying, “My experience with the Super Eagles was quite a memorable one where I met a family and not a team. The Super Eagles is so united and it is no surprise what the team has achieved under the guidance of the current Technical Crew.”
Ajayi reckoned that the difference between the Nigeria U-23 team and the Super Eagles was massive as the players in the Super Eagles showed more maturity and were also more exposed. He also touch on the competition for places within the team which he said also far higher in the Super Eagles.
The former Shooting Stars Striker also express delight in reuniting with several of his Nigeria U-23 teammates, the likes of Shehu Abdulahhi, Williams Troost Ekong, Uche Agbo, Mikel Agu and Oghenekaro Etebo which he said has shown the progress they were making.
The Lagos born player concluded by vowing to always give his best anytime he is called upon to represent his fatherland.
