The Morocco is wanted by Rafa Benitez with the Spaniard keen to add cover to his back four, report the Newcastle Chronicle.
Lazaar is believed to have been offered a five-year deal, with a fee of €3.5million agreed between the two clubs.
The left-back has also been linked with West Ham United this summer but Newcastle are keen to bring him to St James’ Park over the weekend.
Newcastle are also understood to be interested in Chelsea winger Christian Atsu but Benitez did not confirm or deny talk that the club are in for the Ghana international
