Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie suffers horrible eye injury in Fenerbahce win


The ex-Arsenal man went down in agony and was bleeding from his left eye after he appeared to be struck by the flailing hand of an opponent.

Robin van Persie narrowly escaped a career-ending injury after he was stretchered off and taken to hospital in Fenerbahce's 3-1 win over Akhisar on Sunday.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United man scored the opening goal for the Istanbul club just before the half-hour mark but was carried off the field just before half-time.

The Dutchman went down in agony after appearing to get caught by the flailing arm of an opponent.

He was left bleeding from his left eye which was dressed on the field before he was taken in an ambulance for treatment.
