Manchester teams willing to meet £170M Neymar buyout clause

Agent Wagner Ribeiro has again spoken of Barcelona star Neymar coming close to joining Manchester United . Neymar was the subject of failed bids from Manchester City and United this summer.

The two Manchester clubs went head-to-head for the Brazilian's signature, with Mundo Deportivo claiming both were willing to meet his £170m buy-out clause.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid were also understood to have been interested before Neymar signed a new five- year contract at the Nou Camp. However, his agent, Ribeiro, confirmed Neymar was close to leaving.

He told ESPN Brazil : "He was close to joining PSG . He would have earned €40m (£34m) a year net.

"Neymar was also close to a spell at Manchester United , but he extended his contract to earn less at Barcelona because he wanted to stay at Barcelona."
